Transform the uses of the space (10pts)
Dramatic rooftop reading of radical text (20pts) [1, txt]
Wild, inventive chants (30pts)
Solidarity means attack! (50pts) [1,2]
Total: 170pts

Lessons Learned
[ + ] Banners: DAMN THESE KIDS ARE CLEVER.
[ + ] Outside support is key. That was badass: [1,2,3]
[ - ] Despite their toughness, more was needed!
[ - ] Don’t expect your social role to lessen police reaction.
[ + ] You have to respond to “repression” with action, not self-victimization and whining.

Post-Game Analysis
They said they’d be back and they were, but not for that long. Despite that, they showed that not only is it possible to take a huge building in New York, it’s possible to do it again, even after you publicly announce you’d do it again and get snitched out by student organizers. Why the fuck is no one else doing this? Oh yeah, they’re scared. Don’t be a baby; occupy everything right now!

They Took a Building, Made Cool Shit…

Posted by: thething2013 on: May 1, 2009

They took a building, made cool shit, had a show, then they left.

Team: Over-Take Art Occupation, March 29th
Restyle the interior with diligence (50pts)
Transform the uses of the space (30pts)
Experiment with other forms of social subversion (10pts)
Total: 90 pts

Lessons Learned
[ + ] Keeping it secret keeps it safe.
[ + ] Limited objectives are cool, an occupation doesn’t have to be forever.
[ - ] Art is dead.

Post-Game Analysis
Over-Take occupied a long abandoned building in north Brooklyn, spending days constructing intricate installations and transforming the rubble of this disused building. They opened up the building for one night to their friends and other interested brooklynites. Cops showed up in force but only one arrest was made. Over-Take almost made us like art. Awesome to see people using abandoned space to their advantage. Will they be back? Occupy Everything!

The spring occupation tournament extraordinaire is on. If you’re not in it, you’re a chump. Simple. Read the announcement or else.

  • tinec02: We're pretty sure that most of the New School kids are going to find themselves living at home with mom and dad. Which is why they should write about
  • Mike X: Wow, after this "occupation" I can still picture the homeless sleeping out front of the building as opposed to in it...
